The Eternal Portrait:

Handcrafted Palladium Print

We begin with a relaxed, unhurried portrait session in my home studio. You’ll receive a curated set of up to a dozen high-resolution  digital files (JPEG)  digital files, processed using my distinctive style. You will then select your favorite image from the collection that I will use to make a hand-made Ziatype print – a modern variant of a 19th century photographic process developed in the labs of Bostick & Sullivan.

The process starts when I create a custom digital negative of the photograph. Next, I prepare the emulsion and hand-coat 100% cotton rag paper from Hahnemühle, a German paper company who has been making paper in the same location for over 430 years.

The negative and paper are then exposed under UV light. The result is a unique work of art with the rich, warm-to-neutral tones, velvety matte surface, and extraordinary tonal range that only palladium delivers. Because every print is brushed on by hand, subtle brush strokes and slight variations in tone make each one truly one-of-a-kind.

Since palladium is a noble metal, these prints are among the most archival photographic processes ever created and can last hundreds of years under normal display conditions. This is not a digital print or a lab reproduction. It is a handmade palladium object that will be treasured for years to come.
